History of the 11th Indian Division
This division was formed in Egypt on 24 December 1914 by bringing together two brigades of infantry that had gone to Egypt as Indian Expeditionary Force “E”. It was never fully formed to the full war establishment of a division and was broken up on 31 May 1915. One of its brigades took part in a named action, but for the most part it was used as a depot for the Indian force in France and Flanders.
