Reorganisation of Yeomanry at home, 1917

The following details are extracted from Army Council Instruction 54/1917.

It has been decided that all personnel of Third Line units of Yeomanry now training as infantry should be disposed of as follows.

1. All officers, Warrant Officers and NCOs, and all men in medical categories A, Bi and Ci will be sent to their corresponding Second Line units now serving in Cyclist Brigades. In the case of the 3/1st Welsh Horse they will be sent to the 2/1st Montgomeryshire Yeomanry.

2. All men of categories Bii, Biii, Cii and Ciii will be sent for disposal of the Reserve Infantry Battalions with which there is a Territorial connection, as shown below.

  • 3/1st Montgomeryshire Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers
  • 3/1st Welsh Horse > 4th Reserve Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers
  • 3/1st Glamorgan Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Welsh Regiment
  • 3/1st Pembroke Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Welsh Regiment
  • 3/1st Norfolk Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Norfolk Regiment
  • 3/1st Suffolk Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
  • 3/1st Royal East Kent Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Buffs (East Kent Regiment)
  • 3/1st West Kent Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment)
  • 3/1st Sussex Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment
  • 3/1st Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Devonshire Regiment

  • 3/1st West Somerset Yeomanry > 4th Reserve Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry
  • 3/1st Lovat Scouts > 3rd Reserve Battalion, Cameron Highlanders

3. All men of category D will be treated for this purpose under their permanent categories and disposed of accordingly.

4. All men of category E will be discharged.
