Battalions of the Regular Army
1st Battalion
August 1914 : in Holywood, Belfast. Part of 15th Brigade, 5th Division.
Landed at Le Havre August 1914.
Moved with Division to Italy in November 1917 but returned to France in April 1918.
2nd Battalion
August 1914 : in Bombay in India. Part of 18th (Belgaum) Brigade, 6th (Poona) Division of Indian Army.
Moved to Mesopotamia, landing 15 November 1914.
29 April 1916: battalion captured after being besieged at Kut-al-Amara. Details and transport that had not been at Kut joined similar detachments of the 2nd Dorset and formed a composite battalion, named the Norsets. This was broken up on 21 July 1916, as the battalion had been reconstituted by the arrival of new drafts.
February 1917: transferred to 37th Brigade in 14th Indian Division. Remained in Mesopotamia.
3rd (Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Britannia Barracks. A training unit, it remained in UK throughout the war.
Moved to Felixstowe in early August 1914 and remained there throughout the war.
Battalions of the Territorial Force
1/4th Battalion
August 1914 : in Norwich. Part of Norfolk and Suffolk Brigade, East Anglian Division.
After completing mobilisation, moved to Colchester.
May 1915 : moved to Watford and the formation was retitled as 163rd Brigade, 54th (East Anglian) Division.
29 July 1915 : embarked at Liverpool and moved to Gallipoli via Mudros. Landed at Suvla Bay on 10 August 1915.
19 December 1915 : evacuated from Gallipoli and arrived at Alexandria. Served in Egypt and Palestine thereafter.
1/5th Battalion
August 1914 : in East Dereham. Part of Norfolk and Suffolk Brigade, East Anglian Division.
Record same as 1/4th Battalion.

1/6th (Cyclist) Battalion
August 1914 : in Norwich.
Moved to coast defence work in Norfolk in August 1914 and remained there until 1918 when moved to Ireland.
2/4th Battalion
Formed in Norwich in September 1914 as a Second Line Battalion. Disbanded in UK in June 1918.
2/5th (Battalion
Formed in East Dereham in September 1914 as a Second Line Battalion. Disbanded in UK in May 1918.
2/6th (Cyclist) Battalion
Formed in Bridlington in October 1914 as a Second Line Battalion. Remained in UK.
18 May 1916: a large draft of men transferred to the 2/6th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment.
3/4th and 3/5th Battalions
Formed at home bases in early 1915.
August 1915 : moved to Windsor Great Park.
October 1915: moved to Halton Park.
8 April 1916 : became 4th and 5th Reserve Battalions.
1 September 1916 : 5th absorbed into 4th.
November 1917: moved to Crowborough.
1918: moved to Hastings.
3/6th (Cyclist) Battalion
Formed in Norwich in May 1915 and disbanded in March 1916.
11th Battalion
On 1 January 1917, the 61st Provisional Bn became 11th Bn TF. The 61st had been formed in 1915 from Home Service personnel from the TF Bns of the regiment. It came under orders of 212th Brigade in 71st Division.
20 December 1917: disbanded in UK.
12th (Norfolk Yeomanry) Battalion
Formed in Egypt on 11 February 1917 from the dismounted 1/1st Norfolk Yeomanry and attached to 230th Brigade, 74th Division.
1 May 1918 : embarked at Alexandria for Marseilles, landing 7 May.
21 June 1918 : came under orders of 94th Brigade, 31st Division.
Battalions of the New Armies
7th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Norwich in August 1914 as part of K1 and came under orders of 35th Brigade in 12th (Eastern) Division.
31 May 1915 : landed at Boulogne.
8th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Norwich in September 1914 as part of K2 and came under orders of 53rd Brigade in 18th (Eastern) Division.
7 September 1914: moved to Shorncliffe in Kent.
2 October 1914: moved to Colchester.
1 May 1915: moved to Codford on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.
25 July 1915 : landed at Boulogne.
12 February 1918 : disbanded in Flanders, officers and men going to 7th and 9th Battalions.
9th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Norwich in September 1914 as part of K3 and came under orders of 71st Brigade in 24th Division.
30 August 1915 : landed at Boulogne.
15 October 1915 : transferred with Brigade to 6th Division.

10th (Reserve) Battalion
Formed in Walton on the Naze in October 1914 as Service battalion, part of K4.
November 1914 : came under orders of 94th Brigade, original 31st Division.
10 April 1915 : became a reserve battalion.
1 September 1916 : converted into 25th Training Reserve Battalion in 6th Reserve Brigade.
Other Battalions
1st Garrison Battalion
Formed at Seaford in September 1915 and moved to India in December 1915.
