XLIII (Howitzer) Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery

This was a unit of Britain’s pre-war regular army. It is also sometimes shown as 43 Brigade RFA.

History

  • This brigade was originally comprised of numbers 30, 40 and 57 (Howitzer) Batteries RFA and the Brigade Ammunition Column. It was placed under command of the 1st Division and went to France with it in August 1914.
    • 57 (Howitzer) Battery moved to 8th Division on 23 June 1915 and was soon placed into that division’s 128 (Howitzer) Brigade RFA.
  • The remainder of the brigade was broken up on 22 May 1915, with the batteries going to 26 and 39 Brigades RFA, both within the same 1st Division.
