Timeline of April 1915

On 25 April 1915, elements of the British 29th Division came ashore here, at "V" Beach at Gallipoli. Terrible casualties were inflicted by staunch Turkish defence from the heights on either side of the beach and directly in front of it, but gradually the troops gained a foothold onshore. The white obelisk is the Helles memorial, which records names of men who died here and who have no known grave.
