10Turkish forces capture Hamadan in western Persia
12Italian troops arrive to join Allied force at Salonika
15Turkish troops reoccupy Bitlis and Mush in Armenia; Russians take them back on 24 August
17Rumanian government forms agreement with Entente Powers regarding military intervention
19HMS "Falmouth" and "Nottingham" both sunk by submarine
