8General Kornilov heads revolt against Russian provisional government under Kerenski and organises march on Petrograd. Two days later Kerenski assumes dictatorship of Russia and proclaims Kornilov a traitor
9French premier Ribot resigns; he is replaced by Painleve on 12th
