Regular Army Depots and Reserve Brigades

1 Depot
Fenham Barracks, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
The location of 1A Reserve Brigade RFA, which originally consisted of numbers 1, 2 and 3 Reserve Batteries. Number 55 Reserve Battery joined by January 1916.

2 Depot
Fulwood Barracks, Preston (Lancashire)
The location of 2A Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 7, 8 and 9 Reserve Batteries.

3 Depot
Hilsea (near Portsmouth)
The location of 3A Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 13, 14 and 15 Reserve Batteries.
Number 57 Reserve Battery joined. I have found references to it being at Charlton Park and Larkhill in 1918.

4 Depot
Woolwich (London)
The location of 4A Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 19, 20 and 21 Reserve Batteries.
Number 56 Reserve Battery joined.
Also the location of 4B Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 22, 23 and 24 Reserve Batteries. I have found references to it later being on Salisbury Plain, at Boyton and Corton.

5 Depot
Athlone (Westmeath, Ireland)
The location of 5A Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 25, 26 and 27 Reserve Batteries.

6 Depot
Glasgow Maryhill Barracks
The location of 6A Reserve Brigade RFA, which consisted of numbers 31, 32 and 33 Reserve Batteries.

7 Depot
This depot, established in 1916, was for men returning to service after a period of medical treatment.
Frome (Wiltshire) moved in April 1917 to Romsey (Hampshire).

1B Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of of numbers 4, 5 and 6 Reserve Batteries.
Located at Ipswich Artillery Barracks (Suffolk) until 1915, then at Forest Row (Sussex).
2/3rd East Lancashire Brigade RFA is also mentioned as being at Forest Row in late 1915.

1C Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of of numbers 37, 38 and 39 Reserve Batteries.
Located at Norwich (Norfolk).
Relocated by August 1917. 37 Reserve Battery to Northampton, 38 and 39 Reserve Batteries to Hemel Hempstead.

2B Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 10, 11 and 12 Reserve Batteries
Located at Preston Barracks, Brighton (Sussex)
Was converted into No 4 RFA Officer Cadet School in February 1917

2C Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 40, 41 and 42 Reserve Batteries
Located at Leeds Artillery Barracks until December 1916 when it relocated to Catterick.

3B Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 16, 17 and 18 Reserve Batteries
Located at Topsham Barracks, Exeter (Devon)
Was converted into No 2 RFA Officer Cadet School in February 1917

3C Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 43, 44 and 45 Reserve BatteriesLOcations TBC but included Deepcut and Swanage

4C Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 46, 47 and 48 Reserve Batteries
Weedon (Northamptonshire)

5B Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 28, 29 and 30 Reserve Batteries
Ballincollig Artillery Barracks (Cork, Ireland)

New 5B Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 59, 60 and 61 Reserve Batteries
Located at Edinburgh but had moved to Lessness Park, Abbey Wood by late 1918.

5C Reserve Brigade RFA
Consisted of numbers 49, 50 and 51 Reserve Batteries
Located at Colchester.
At least 50 Reserve Battery was at Hemel Hempstead in 1916.
By February 1917 the brigade had relocated to Charlton Park in London.

6B Reserve Brigade
Consisted of numbers 34, 35 and 36 Reserve Batteries.
Located at Edinburgh Artillery Barracks, Piershill.

6C Reserve Brigade
Consisted of numbers 52, 53 and 54 Reserve Batteries.
Located at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh.
Relocated to Aldershot some time after March 1916 (at least 54 Reserve Battery being in Waterloo Barracks).

Established in 1915
Location of 2 Reserve Brigade RFA TF
The third line RFA units of the East Lancashire, West Lancashire and Welsh Divisions were affiliated to this school.

No. 3 Territorial Force Artillery School
Rollestone Camp (Wiltshire)
Moved to nearby Bulford in 1916
The third line RFA units of the South Midland and Wessex Divisions were affiliated to this school.

No. 4 Territorial Force Artillery School
High Wycombe (Buckinghamshire)
Location of 4 Reserve Brigade RFA TF
The third line RFA units of the East Anglian, Home Counties, 1st London and 2nd London Divisions were affiliated to this school. *The London Division later changed to No. 6 School

The third line RFA units of the Lowland and Highland Divisions were affiliated to this school.
