Ladysmith Barracks (formerly Wellington Barracks), Ashton-under-Lyne

The Ladysmith Barracks at Ashton-under-Lyne, as seen on an Ordnance Survey map dated to 1916. National Library of Scotland, with thanks. Opposite the barracks on Mossley Road was the “Heroes Hotel” public house. Now the “Heroes of Waterloo”, it still stands. On the north side of the road is a section of the barracks’ retaining wall and the impressive gateway.
