The following definition is from War Establishments 1 September 1917. It totals the manpower of the Corps of Military Police in the home commands and the London District. It excludes military police that were on the headcount of divisions and brigades and authorised by other war establishments.

Military Mounted Police

  • 2 Warrant Officers Class II
  • 11 Sergeants
  • 11 Corporals
  • 136 Lance Corporals.
    Total 160 men.

Military Foot Police (including Dock Police)

  • 1 Warrant Officer, Class I
  • 41 Colour Sergeants
  • 292 Sergeants
  • 292 Corporals
  • 3514 Lance Corporals.
    Total 4140 men.

Garrison Military Police (London District)

  • 19 Sergeants
  • 19 Corporals
  • 227 Lance Corporals and Privates.
    Total 265 men.

Port Police

  • 15 Sergeants
  • 15 Corporals
  • 270 Lance Corporals and Privates.
    Total 300 men.

Of the total of all types of men, 250 would be in medical category A, 1100 in B, and 2950 in C.

Depot and Record Office

  • Depot: 5 officers; 1 Warrant Officer Class I; 6 instructors; 5 NCOs for discipline; 10 miscellaneous others (total 5 officers and 22 other ranks)
  • Record Office: 1 Warrant Officer Class I; 1 Sergeant-Clerk, 7 Clerks (total 9).
