Locations of units
Birmingham-based units and the normal location of their headquarters and depots. For the pupose of this page I am using a rough definition of what is considered today’s Birmingham, so have for example included Handsworth and Harborne.
- 3rd South Midland Brigade Royal Field Artillery: Stoney Lane
- South Midland (Warwickshire) Royal Garrison Artillery: Metropolitan Works, Saltley (note: the drill hall was at the junction of Saltley Viaduct and Metropolitan Lane)
- Southern Command Signal Company Royal Engineers: Great Brook Street Barracks
- 5th Battalion, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment: Thorp Street
- 6th Battalion, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment: Thorp Street
- 8th Battalion, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment: Witton Road, Aston
- 1st South Midland Mounted Brigade Transport and Supply Column, Army Service Corps: Taunton Road, Sparkbrook
- South Midland Divisional Transport and Supply Column, Army Service Corps: Aston, with Warwickshire Brigade Company at Court Oak House, Harborne**
- North Midland Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance: 59 Soho Road, Handsworth***
- 1st South Midland Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance: Great Brook Street Barracks

- 1st Southern General Hospital: headquartered also at Great Brook Street Barracks
- South Midland Clearing Hospital: headquartered also at Great Brook Street Barracks
*The battalion’s B Company was also at the Metropolitain Works in Saltley
**. Newspapers report on the company when it moved into a new drill hall “on the site of the old aquarium at Lower Grounds”: this may be the same as the 8th Royal Warwickshires drill hall which was accessed from Witton Lane. Its Gloucester and Worcester Brigade Company was at Stroud
