Army Ordnance Corps

This section of the Long, Long Trail will be helpful for anyone wishing to find out about the history of the units of the Army Ordnance Corps. The job of the AOC was the maintenance and repair of armaments and munitions.

The organisation of the AOC

This detail is currently work in progress – I hope to be able to release it soon.

The Master General of the Ordnance

This was one of the roles of the military members who sat on the Army Council at the War Office. Although not directly connected to the AOC, the Master General dealt with questions of great relevance to it: high explosives and propellants, munitions contracts, contracts for electrical stores, machinery, mechanical transport and the administrative and finncial control of Ordnance Factories (Woolwich Arsenal, the Enfield Small Arms Factory, and the Waltham Powder Factory). Some of his duties were transferred to the new Ministry of Munitions in 1916.
